Congress Agitation Against CEC Gyanesh Kumar to Continue

· India · Hindustan Times, Zee News, The Hindu

AICC general secretary K C Venugopal announced on Sunday that the Congress-led nationwide protests against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar will continue until he is removed from his post. Speaking to reporters, Venugopal stated that the agitation aims to make India's electoral system impartial and fair, with protests continuing across states and districts after a brief pause for Diwali. He described the November 1 rally in New Delhi as one of the strongest protests organized by the party against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Venugopal alleged that the deletion of names from electoral rolls deprives poor citizens of voting rights and government benefits linked to voter identity cards. The party plans to launch a panchayat-level 'Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao' campaign and appoint a 'Vote Rakshak' in every polling booth to help citizens restore deleted names.

Why it matters

The nationwide campaign targets India's electoral administration and sets up a major political confrontation between the opposition INDIA bloc and the central government ahead of parliamentary sessions.
