Congress Attacks Modi Government Over Rising Food Prices

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh on Monday criticised the Narendra Modi-led government over sharply rising food prices, citing a media report on inflation. Ramesh said prices of spices, pulses, cooking oils and onions have surged in recent months, straining middle- and lower-income households. He listed specific increases: green cardamom rose from ₹4,000 to ₹4,400 per kg, arhar dal from ₹100 to ₹130 per kg, and onion prices jumped 82.3% from ₹29.50 to ₹53.78 per kg between June and September. Ramesh used the Bollywood lyric "Kya hua tera vada?" to question the Prime Minister's silence on inflation and the promise of "achche din."
