Congress Calls Nationwide Black Day Over Delhi Police Action on INDIA Bloc Leaders

The Congress party has directed its state units to observe a black day and stage protests following the alleged manhandling of top opposition leaders by Delhi Police. Lok Sabha Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and over 90 other INDIA bloc members were detained during a protest near Jantar Mantar in New Delhi. General secretary K.C. Venugopal described the police action as a brutal assault on elected representatives and Indian democracy itself. CPI(M) MP V. Sivadasan further claimed that officers physically assaulted leaders inside a police vehicle during the crackdown. Meanwhile, National Students' Union of India members released a video alleging that an unidentified individual damaged a police bus brought to the protest site near Le Meridien and Shangri La hotels.
