Congress Flags 2 Crore Voter Deletions in Maharashtra, Cites Delhi SIR

The Congress on Tuesday flagged the deletion of 2.06 crore names from Maharashtra's electoral rolls after the Special Intensive Revision, calling it the largest such deletion in absolute numbers during Phase 3 of the SIR. Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said the BJP and a "vote theft commission" were adding and deleting votes to ensure electoral victories, citing the Maharashtra 2024 figures where 3.9 million new voters appeared between the Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. Gandhi noted the Maharashtra Lok Sabha 2024 roll stood at 9.29 crore, the Vidhan Sabha 2024 roll at 9.7 crore, and the SIR 2026 draft at 7.78 crore, asking which list was correct. In West Bengal, the Congress said 91% of voter names struck off in the SIR had to be reinstated after appeals.
