The Congress party has accused the BJP of adopting an anti-Dalit stance after opposition protests prevented the Karnataka Legislative Assembly from adopting a unanimous resolution. The proposed resolution aimed to condemn a purification ritual conducted at a public ground in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, two days after AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge addressed a rally there on August 8. During the Assembly session in Bengaluru on Tuesday, Congress legislators Sharat Bachhe Gowda and N.T. Srinivas raised the issue, calling the ritual a heinous crime. Social Welfare Minister K.H. Muniyappa and Greater Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda urged the opposition to participate in a debate to facilitate the resolution's adoption.
