Congress-led Opposition INDIA bloc launches largest overlanders march in Delhi
· India · Hindustan Times, Zee News, Deccan Herald
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi led thousands of overlanders from Connaught Place to Ramlila Maidan in central Delhi on October 12, 2026, protesting alleged ECI irregularities and electoral roll deletions under the special intensive revision (SIR). The march, which snaked through central Delhi for over an hour, was the largest Opposition mobilisation in recent years and brought together INDIA bloc leaders including Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Akhilesh Yadav, Mamata Banerjee, Abhishek Banerjee, M A Baby, D Raja, Farooq Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti. The protest demanded Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar's removal and warned he would face treason charges in the future. The rally at Ramlila Maidan, one of three newly designated protest sites in the Capital, followed the procession that began from the edge of Connaught Place and joined at Minto Road, 1.3 km from the venue.
Why it matters
The mobilisation tests Opposition unity and pressure on the Election Commission ahead of upcoming elections, directly impacting accountability for the removal of 130 million electoral roll names and potentially influencing voter perception of electoral fairness.
