Congress MLA Accuses Pinarayi Vijayan of Corruption in CMRL Case
· India · The Hindu, Hindustan Times
Congress MLA Mathew Kuzhalnadan has accused former Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan of involvement in "unusual corruption" regarding the CMRL money-laundering case. The Muvattupuzha MLA alleged that large sums of money were credited to the account of Mr. Vijayan's daughter, T. Veena, without any corresponding services provided. Mr. Kuzhalnadan claimed that the former Chief Minister’s repeated assertions of innocence are attempts to divert public attention from the ongoing Enforcement Directorate investigation. He further stated that the public and even members of the Communist party are increasingly skeptical of Mr. Vijayan's claims. The accusation follows a long-standing political dispute between the two leaders regarding the financial dealings of the CMRL company.
Why it matters
The allegations intensify the political pressure on Pinarayi Vijayan and his family as the Enforcement Directorate continues its probe into the financial transactions involving CMRL.
