Conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar Gets 8 Years for Posing as SC Judge

A Delhi court has sentenced conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar to eight years of rigorous imprisonment for impersonating a Supreme Court judge and attempting to influence judicial proceedings to secure bail in a separate criminal case. Chief Judicial Magistrate Harshita Mishra of Tis Hazari court passed the order on August 29 under Sections 170, 189 and 507 IPC, based on calls Chandrasekhar made on April 28, 2017 to a judicial officer while posing as a Supreme Court judge from South India using a regional accent. The court observed that the deliberate, calculated and deceptive manner of the offence warranted a sentence commensurate with the attack on the rule of law. It also flagged the growing risks from AI-generated voices, fabricated videos and synthetic communications in enabling impersonation of judges and public officials.
