A contract worker earning ₹11,000 a month has emerged as a central figure in the investigation into ₹17.29 crore in counterfeit currency recovered from a Punjab National Bank currency chest in Saharanpur. The National Investigation Agency is examining the assets of the driver-loader, who allegedly owns five houses, an SUV, a sedan, and two motorcycles despite his modest salary. Investigators are probing his close proximity to the suspended currency chest manager Amit Kumar, as the worker reportedly spent significant time operating inside the facility like a personal assistant. While authorities have not yet established a direct link between his assets and the fake currency, searches were conducted at his Manakmau residence on Wednesday. The asset trail forms a key part of the broader inquiry into how counterfeit notes were substituted for genuine cash inside an RBI-linked facility.
