CPI(M) Targets Congress Over Kerala Mini Cooper Accident Probe
· India · Indian Express, India Today
The CPI(M) has accused the Kerala Congress government of shielding 19-year-old Suhail Sajeev, who allegedly struck and killed three youths with his car near Kochi international airport on Sunday. The accused, who hails from a textile business family in Alappuzha, was reportedly in an inebriated state when the incident occurred. M R Pradeep Kumar, the father of victim Gopika, alleged that ministers from Alappuzha are attempting to derail the investigation to protect the accused. Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has dismissed the allegations as baseless and promised that the accused will face maximum punishment. The victims, all in their early 20s, were returning from their part-time jobs at an antique showroom when the collision took place.
Why it matters
The case has become a flashpoint for political tension in Kerala, forcing the state government to defend the integrity of its police investigation against claims of ministerial interference.
