CPI(ML) Alleges Illegal Voter Deletions in Bihar Revision

· India · The Hindu, Indian Express

CPI(ML) Liberation General Secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya has accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of illegalities during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar. A party-led survey across 102 booths in ten assembly constituencies, including Patna and Siwan, found that 17% of voters deleted during the SIR process were actually alive and residing at their registered addresses. Bhattacharya further alleged that Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar made unilateral decisions without consulting the other two commissioners. The party presented these findings during a public hearing in Patna, claiming the commission is undermining the Constitution and the spirit of justice. The survey also indicated an 18% error rate in pre-SIR deletions between January 2024 and June 2025.

Why it matters

Allegations of large-scale, wrongful voter deletions threaten the integrity of the electoral process and could disenfranchise thousands of eligible voters in upcoming elections.
