CRPF Sub-Inspector Shot And Two Houses Torched in Manipur
· India · The Hindu, Indian Express
A Central Reserve Police Force sub-inspector was injured in the crossfire after violence erupted between two groups in Manipur on August 24, 2026. Unknown miscreants first burnt a house in the Taphou Kuki village in the Kangpokpi district, followed by another house torched in the Taphou Naga village in the adjoining Senapati district. As tension mounted and groups exchanged fire, the CRPF officer was shot and subsequently admitted to a local hospital. Locals in Senapati district blocked National Highway-2 for a few hours in protest, prompting security forces to heighten surveillance along the highway and vulnerable villages. Meanwhile, public transport services on NH-2 continued under security, with over 250 passengers leaving Imphal for Dimapur and Guwahati in five buses and seven vans.
Why it matters
The escalation of violence and highway blockades in Manipur directly disrupts regional transport, public safety, and civilian movement across the Kangpokpi and Senapati districts.
