· India · The Hindu, Business Standard

The India Meteorological Department says a very severe cyclonic storm will cross Andhra Pradesh and Yanam coasts between Bapatla and Visakhapatnam on October 28, bringing 115‑125 kmph winds gusting to 140 kmph. Residents from Bapatla to Vizianagaram in low‑lying areas must evacuate ahead of the landfall. The storm is forecast to intensify into a severe cyclonic storm by October 27 before moving north‑westward. Authorities have issued evacuation orders for vulnerable coastal communities. The system was located 880 km east‑southeast of Visakhapatnam at 5.30 am on Sunday, October 25, 2026.

Why it matters

Over a million people in low‑lying coastal Andhra villages risk flooding and high winds as the cyclone makes landfall, threatening homes, crops and livelihoods. Early evacuations are critical to prevent loss of life and damage to infrastructure across the region.
