A deep depression over the Bay of Bengal intensified into Cyclonic Storm 'Arnab' on Thursday, the India Meteorological Department reported. The storm moved northwestwards and crossed the Tamil Nadu coast near Chennai, triggering widespread rainfall across the state. Meteorological officials warned of continued heavy rains and squally winds over the next 24 hours. Coastal districts experienced disrupted normal life as waterlogging and uprooted trees were reported. The IMD forecast the system to gradually weaken while moving inland over the coming days.
