D-Street Breaks Eight-Week Losing Run as Brent Crude Eases
· Business · Economic Times
Indian equities snapped an eight-week losing streak on Friday as easing crude oil prices helped stocks rebound from the previous session's sharp sell-off. The BSE Sensex rose 879.09 points, or 1.23%, to close at 72,472.33, while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 288.65 points, or 1.30%, to settle at 22,520.45. For the week, the Sensex gained 0.8%, and the Nifty rose 0.4%, supported by Brent crude easing to $102.90 per barrel. However, elevated global bond yields and persistent foreign fund outflows continue to weigh on market sentiment. Foreign portfolio investors were net sellers of equities worth ₹3,569 crore on Friday, while domestic institutional investors were net buyers to the tune of ₹4,743 crore.
Why it matters
Domestic institutional buying offset foreign fund outflows to help Indian markets break their eight-week slump, though elevated global bond yields keep the near-term outlook cautious for investors.
