Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath highlighted these demographic trends based on a report by Data For India, pointing out correlations with income and education levels. Replacement fertility is defined as the average of 2.1 children per woman required for a generation to replace itself without migration. Experts note that falling below this threshold does not cause an immediate population drop, as population change is also influenced by age structure, mortality, and migration. The ongoing shift is driven by factors such as urbanisation, increased access to education and contraception, and delayed marriages.
