Deepti Sharma Becomes Third Indian Woman to 150 T20I Caps in Asia Cup Opener
· Sports · Times of India, Sportstar, NDTV Sports
Deepti Sharma became only the third Indian woman to play 150 T20Is, reaching the milestone during India's Women's T20 Asia Cup 2026 Group A opener against Thailand in Dubai on Sunday. She joined captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who leads the list with 202 T20I appearances, and Smriti Mandhana, who has played 171. Deepti went into the match with 1,270 runs and 168 wickets across her previous 149 T20I caps, having made her international debut more than a decade ago. She is also the 12th woman cricketer overall to cross the 150-match mark in the shortest format. Deepti is a four-time Asia Cup participant, having debuted in 2018, and was the leading wicket-taker in the previous two editions with 13 wickets in 2022 and 10 in 2024. The Thailand game also marked the maiden T20I cap for Pratika Rawal, who received it from Harmanpreet after being added to the squad in place of Jemimah Rodrigues.
Why it matters
Deepti's milestone underscores the core of India's white-ball plans ahead of a major tournament, with her record as the leading wicket-taker in the last two Asia Cups giving the side a decisive edge in Dubai's spin-friendly conditions. Rawal's debut also reshapes India's batting depth after Jemimah Rodrigues' withdrawal.
