Defence Ministry Notifies 405 Items For Indigenous Production

The Ministry of Defence has released its sixth positive indigenisation list, mandating the domestic production of 405 military components to reduce import reliance. The list includes line replaceable units, sub-assemblies, and raw materials for major platforms such as Tejas fighter jets, advanced light helicopters, and T-90 tanks. With an estimated business potential of Rs 3,070 crore, the policy bans the import of these items after specific deadlines, requiring procurement from Indian manufacturers. The initiative involves the Indian Coast Guard and various defence public sector undertakings, with opportunities open to MSMEs and startups via the Srijan defence portal. Over the past five years, the government has successfully indigenised more than 15,700 items, resulting in an import substitution value of approximately Rs 9,000 crore.
