· India · Hindustan Times, Zee News, Indian Express
The Delhi government's Anti-Corruption Branch arrested Aam Aadmi Party leader Satyendar Jain, former Delhi Jal Board chief executive officer Udit Prakash Rai, and four others on Tuesday in a case involving alleged tender manipulation for sewage treatment plant projects. The case centers on four tenders worth approximately ₹1,943 crores awarded in October 2022 for upgrading ten sewage treatment plants across locations including Pappankalan, Nilothi, Najafgarh, Keshopur, Coronation Pillar, Narela, Rohini, and Kondli. Investigators allege that Rajkumar Kurra, managing director of Hyderabad-based firm M/s Euroteck Environmental Pvt. Ltd., colluded with officials to manipulate terms and conditions to restrict technology usage exclusively to Integrated Fixed-Film Activated Sludge with fixed media, thereby making his firm the sole supplier. The FIR was initially registered on May 11, 2024, by the Delhi government's Directorate of Vigilance under sections of the Indian Penal Code for cheating
Why it matters
The simultaneous arrests and ongoing financial investigations directly impact public infrastructure administration in Delhi and involve senior political and bureaucratic figures implicated in multi-crore utility contracts.
