Delhi Airport's Third Runway Reopens On September 20

Delhi International Airport will reopen Runway 11R/29L, its third runway at Indira Gandhi International Airport, on September 20, 2026. Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said the runway will return to service about seven months after it closed in February 2026 for strengthening and upgrade work. The rehabilitation included resurfacing, permanent displacement of the Runway 29L threshold, construction of Rapid Exit Taxiway RET Z1, stronger pavement and upgraded ground lighting. DIAL said the work had completed required inspections, validations and regulatory clearances. The operator expects faster aircraft movement, shorter runway occupancy and stronger operational reliability after recommissioning.
