Delhi Consumer Commission Orders Country Club to Refund Customer Rs 3.25 Lakh

· India · Times of India, Indian Express

The Delhi state consumer commission has ordered a hospitality and holidays club to refund Rs 1.75 lakh to a customer who never received a promised 2,000 sq ft plot in Maharashtra. The customer originally paid for a lifetime membership in 2008, which included the plot at Golf Village in Kolad as a complimentary benefit. The commission also directed the company to pay Rs 1 lakh for mental agony and harassment, alongside Rs 50,000 for litigation costs. The company had argued that the complaint was delayed and that the customer failed to pay additional registration fees for the land. The bench, led by President Sangita Dhingra Sehgal, ruled that the company failed to provide the services promised under the membership agreement.

Why it matters

This ruling reinforces consumer protection rights against hospitality firms that fail to deliver promised real estate or holiday benefits. It serves as a precedent for members seeking refunds when companies impose undisclosed conditions or fail to provide advertised services.
