Delhi Court Slams Police Probe Delay After Alleged Crime Syndicate Leader Remains Free for Six Years

· India · Indian Express, NDTV

Special MCOCA Judge Gaurav Rao pulled up Delhi Police officers at Rouse Avenue Court for a lax investigation into alleged crime syndicate leader Mukesh. Police invoked MCOCA against Mukesh in September 2020 when he was named in 20 FIRs, including two murder cases, but failed to arrest him until February 2026. During those six years, Mukesh was allegedly linked to the late gangster Jitender Mann alias Gogi and accrued eight additional criminal cases, including further murder and kidnapping charges. The court rejected police claims of making best efforts and ordered an official inquiry into the investigative delays involving three Additional DCPs and multiple Investigating Officers.

Why it matters

The judicial rebuke exposes systemic delays in high-profile organized crime investigations and holds senior police leadership accountable for prolonged inaction.
