Delhi Enforces Security Lockdown, Detains 400 Over Planned CJP Protest

· India · India Today, Times of India, The Hindu

Delhi implemented a massive security lockdown on Saturday, deploying 25,000 police and paramilitary personnel alongside barricades and metro station restrictions ahead of a planned Cockroach Janta Party protest. Police detained more than 400 people across the city, including YouTuber Dhruv Rathee who was held with assistance from Gurugram Police. The demonstrations targeted Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Minutes after landing on an Air India flight, CJP leaders Abhijeet Dipke, Saurav Das, and Ashutosh Ranka were detained onboard by women police officers. Protesters intending to reach Jantar Mantar were intercepted throughout the day, leaving the proposed protest site heavily outnumbered by security forces.

Why it matters

The heavy-handed clampdown and mass detentions underscore strict state control over political dissent and public demonstrations in the national capital.
