Delhi EV Policy Sees 30% Rise in Electric 2-Wheeler Registrations
· Automobile · Indian Express, Car and Driver, TechCrunch
Delhi's electric two-wheeler registrations increased by 30% in the July-September quarter compared to April-June 2026. The rise follows the launch of the city's EV policy on July 1, which targets 30% electrification of Delhi's vehicle fleet by 2030. Two-wheelers are a key focus as they make up nearly two-thirds of the city's vehicle fleet. The policy includes incentives for electric two-wheelers priced up to Rs 2.25 lakh, offering Rs 10,000 per kWh capped at Rs 30,000 in the first year. Officials also reported approval for 382 charging station sites and appointment of KPMG as the project management unit. Four-wheeler goods vehicles saw the highest growth at 83%, while cars rose 27% and three-wheelers 18% over the same period.
Why it matters
The growth in electric two-wheeler adoption directly supports Delhi's goal to reduce vehicular pollution and dependence on fossil fuels. It benefits buyers through purchase incentives and supports the development of charging and recycling infrastructure across the city.
