Delhi Government Launches 25 New Atal Canteens

The Delhi government has inaugurated 25 new Atal Canteens, bringing the total number of operational outlets to 100 across the capital. These facilities provide nutritious, hygienic meals to the public for ₹5 each, with a daily capacity to serve nearly one lakh people. The initiative, launched on the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, aims to support low-income groups, including daily wage labourers and students. Since the project began on 25th December last year, approximately 95 lakh subsidized meals have been distributed.
Why it matters
The expansion ensures affordable food access for the city's most vulnerable populations, including slum residents and migrant workers, directly addressing food insecurity for nearly 100,000 people daily.
