Delhi High Court Order Clears Termination of 49 Prison Department Officials

· India · Indian Express, Zee News

As many as 49 officials in the Delhi Prisons department will be terminated from service after the Delhi High Court set aside a Central Administrative Tribunal order that had previously stayed their termination. The affected personnel, who are currently on probation, include nine assistant superintendents, 39 warders, and two matrons posted across the Tihar, Mandoli, and Rohini prison complexes. The action follows recommendations from the Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board, which flagged inconsistencies in identity verification records, biometric data, and photographs during a recruitment check of 477 prison personnel appointed in 2020. The prison department previously issued notices seeking explanations before proceeding with the termination of the 50 officials facing discrepancies, out of whom one named Ashok Kumar never joined work.

Why it matters

The removal of nearly 50 operational staff impacts staffing levels across Delhi's major prison facilities, including Tihar and Mandoli.
