· India · Indian Express
Indian Railways has announced a special train service between New Delhi and Howrah to manage the heavy passenger rush expected during Durga Puja, Diwali, and Chhath. The New Delhi-Howrah-New Delhi puja special will operate as train numbers 04052 and 04051, running via Patna Junction and covering a distance of 1,531 kilometres in approximately 30 hours. The train will make nine trips, departing New Delhi every Friday from October 2 to November 27, 2026, and leaving Howrah every Sunday from October 4 to November 29, 2026. Stoppages along the route include Bandel, Barddhaman, Durgapur, Asansol, Chittaranjan, Madhupur, Jasidih, Jhajha, Mokama, Patna Junction, Danapur, Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, Prayagraj, and Kanpur Central. This announcement comes as regular trains on the Delhi-Howrah route face high demand for Durga Puja, with waitlists exceeding 290 and several classes showing regret status.
Why it matters
Passengers travelling between Delhi and Howrah during the festive season get an additional transit option to bypass heavy waitlists on regular routes.
