Delhi L-G Orders Safety Audit of All City Parks After Gangrape

Lieutenant Governor Taranjit Singh Sandhu has ordered a comprehensive safety audit of all Delhi parks to be completed within one week. The directive follows the alleged gangrape of a 17-year-old girl at Aastha Kunj Park near the Kalkaji temple. Officials from the MCD, Delhi Police, and DDA have been tasked with evaluating lighting, security, patrolling, and cleanliness across all park premises. Police have also been instructed to increase beat patrolling and deploy Pink Police units. The 142-acre Aastha Kunj Park, where the incident occurred, was found to have inadequate lighting and dysfunctional CCTV coverage.

The audit aims to address systemic security failures in public spaces that have left residents, particularly women and minors, vulnerable to violent crime.
