Delhi NIA Court Grants Default Bail to Six Ukrainians Accused of Training Rebels

A National Investigation Agency court in Delhi granted default bail to six Ukrainian nationals arrested in March for allegedly running a training camp for ethnic armed rebels in India and Myanmar. Special judge Prashant Sharma ordered their release on a cash bond of Rs 1 lakh each. The court also discharged them from offenses under the Immigration and Foreigners Act after the Foreigners Regional Registration Office settled the violations upon the payment of a penalty of Rs 5.5 lakh each. The judge granted default bail on grounds of parity with American co-accused Matthew Aaron Van Dyke, who received bail on September 18. The NIA filed a charge sheet earlier this month that did not invoke provisions of the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act, prompting the court to rule that the accused were entitled to default bail.
