Delhi Parking Dispute Triggers Unprecedented Police Headquarters Protest
· India · Indian Express, Hindustan Times, India Today
An alleged parking dispute on October 23 in Rohtash Nagar escalated into a violent confrontation when a blocked motorcycle restricted access to a salon. Salon owners Sheetal Thakur and Rahul Thakur stated that an argument erupted after they asked for the vehicle to be moved, leading to a group of lawyers allegedly returning later to vandalize the property and assault Sheetal, who is eight months pregnant. When the family approached the Shahdara police station to file a complaint, no FIR was registered on their behalf, while a case was filed based on the lawyers' complaint. The dispute subsequently led to the transfer of the Gandhi Nagar ACP and SHO, prompting around 100 police personnel to stage an unprecedented protest outside their headquarters on Monday. Senior police officers are currently investigating the matter as the family reports losing contact with relatives involved in the incident.
Why it matters
The direct clash between lawyers and police personnel over grievance handling exposes deep institutional friction and triggers rare protests outside Delhi Police headquarters.
