Delhi Police Denies Excessive Force During Jantar Mantar CJP Protest

The Delhi Police has rejected allegations of using excessive force against student demonstrators during the July 20 Jantar Mantar agitation led by the Cockroach Janta Party. In an affidavit submitted to the Supreme Court, the police stated that a crowd of over 30,000 protesters and subsequent violence after barricades were breached required graded intervention. The force was deployed across a three-kilometre stretch with approximately 5,000 personnel managing the ground situation. The affidavit serves as a joint reply to four connected petitions seeking a court-monitored investigation into alleged police excesses. According to the police, the demonstration turned difficult to control only after protesters broke through security barriers.
