Delhi Police detained five individuals on Friday for staging a protest against Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India for the BRICS Summit. Three members of the Students for Free Tibet climbed poles inside an underpass near Bharat Mandapam to display banners and flags condemning the visit. Two additional people were taken into custody while allegedly photographing the demonstration. The three primary protesters have been placed under preventive detention at Tihar jail until September 14. A separate peaceful protest involving hundreds of members of the Tibetan community also took place at Majnu Ka Tila in north Delhi.
