Delhi Police Promotes Officer Vivek Bhagat Amid Harassment Complaints

Delhi Police has promoted officer Vivek Bhagat to additional deputy commissioner even as the Crime Branch examines sexual harassment complaints against him. Bhagat, a 2018-batch DANIPS officer who previously served as an assistant commissioner, received the promotion on Monday alongside 11 other officers. A senior police officer stated that the promotions were routine and proposed before the allegations emerged. The complaints stem from a October 3 protest at Jantar Mantar where three women journalists accused police personnel of sexual harassment. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi subsequently demanded a response from Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the police inaction on registering FIRs.
