Delhi Proposes 2.5 Lakh Cap on E-Rickshaws
· India · Hindustan Times, Indian Express
The Delhi government has released a draft policy proposing a city-wide limit of 2.5 lakh e-rickshaws to address traffic congestion and pollution. Under the proposed scheme, individual owners are restricted to a maximum of five vehicles, while companies and cooperatives face a ceiling of 100. Operators managing fleets of 25 or more vehicles must obtain an aggregator licence. All e-rickshaws will require a digital E-Rickshaw Compliance Certificate linked to registration and driver details, with a 90-day window provided for existing vehicles to regularise their status.
Why it matters
The policy directly impacts thousands of e-rickshaw drivers and fleet operators in Delhi by formalising regulations and capping the total number of vehicles allowed on city roads.
