Delhi Schools Add Vocational and Third Language to Class 9

Delhi has announced that starting this academic year, schools will make vocational education and a third language compulsory for Class 9 students. The six core subjects—Language‑1, Language‑2, Mathematics, Science, Social Science and Vocational Education (Kaushal Vikas)—will determine promotion to Class 10. The third language, chosen as R3, will be a qualifying subject assessed only by the school and recorded as Qualified or Not Qualified. Students who do not qualify in R3 may still advance to Class 10 if they meet other criteria, but must pass the R3 assessment in Class 10 and cannot sit the Board exam without it. In addition, Class 9 exams will offer optional Advanced‑level tests in Mathematics and Science, worth 25 marks each, for students wishing to study beyond the standard syllabus.
