Delhi Traders Urge Sonia Gandhi to Postpone Rahul's Nov 1 Rally Over Rs 12,000 Cr Diwali Trade Loss Fear
· India · Times of India, Hindustan Times, NDTV
The Delhi Chamber of Trade and Industry has written to Sonia Gandhi asking her to defer Rahul Gandhi's proposed November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan, warning it could disrupt business worth Rs 10,000–12,000 crore across 20 markets. The trade body expects up to 10 lakh attendees and 15,000–20,000 vehicles, risking gridlock on a critical day for transporting festive goods ahead of Dhanteras on November 6 and Diwali on November 8. CTI chairman Brijesh Goyal said the appeal is not against the rally but to protect livelihoods during peak season. The Congress has not yet responded publicly to the request. Police and civic agencies have not announced traffic arrangements for the event.
Why it matters
Thousands of Delhi traders and daily-wage workers face potential income loss if festive supply chains are disrupted by rally-related congestion.
