· India · Times of India, Gadgets360
The Union Cabinet has approved a Rs 1,789.52-crore Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to modernize traffic control across 42 corridors in Delhi. The project will replace fixed-timing signals with an adaptive system that adjusts in real-time to current road conditions using AI-based analytics. The infrastructure will include 1,092 adaptive signal locations and 1,029 automated enforcement points to detect violations such as speeding, wrong-way driving, and failure to wear seat belts. Additionally, the system will create green corridors to provide priority movement for ambulances and emergency vehicles. Implementation is scheduled over 24 months, with C-DAC serving as the primary technology partner for the initiative.
Why it matters
The system aims to reduce congestion and improve emergency response times for Delhi's 71 lakh registered vehicles by automating traffic regulation and enforcement.
