Delhi University has suspended a PhD scholar from its Faculty of Law after CCTV footage showed him slapping a professor at Umang Bhawan around 10.30 a.m. Monday. The student, admitted in the 2024-25 academic session under Phase‑II, was immediately barred from entering any DU premises under Ordinance XV‑B of the Delhi University Act, 1922. The university’s Office of the Proctor, Manoj Kumar Singh, announced the suspension and formed a three‑member enquiry committee to investigate. The committee is headed by Rajeev Gupta of the Department of Chemistry, with Vipul Singh of History and Sudha Singh of Hindi as other members. The committee will submit its report after a formal inquiry into the incident.
Why it matters
The suspension removes the scholar from further academic participation at Delhi University, setting a precedent for handling violence on campus and reinforcing institutional discipline standards for faculty and students.
