Devbhoomi Dwarka Records Driest Monsoon in a Decade

· India · Indian Express, The Hindu

Devbhoomi Dwarka, Gujarat, has faced its driest southwest monsoon season in 10 years, recording only 16.45% of its decadal average rainfall. This marks a sharp reversal from 2024, when it was the wettest district in the state with 258.2% of the average. The Kalyanpur taluka reported the least rainfall, at just 7.86% of the 10-year average. Porbandar, another coastal district, also saw a deficit, receiving only 30.86% of its decadal average. The delayed monsoon onset and minimal rainfall have severely impacted the region.

Why it matters

The severe rainfall deficit in Devbhoomi Dwarka and Porbandar affects agriculture, water supply, and local livelihoods in these traditionally rainfall-surplus districts.
