Digantara Unveils AI-Powered Space Surveillance Network MOSAIC
· Technology · India Today, The Hindu
Bengaluru-based space intelligence firm Digantara has unveiled MOSAIC, an artificial intelligence-powered optical sensor network designed to track objects in Low Earth Orbit in real time. The system aims to strengthen India's strategic autonomy by reducing reliance on foreign-owned space surveillance systems and commercial data providers. The launch follows Operation Sindoor, during which India utilized a mix of domestic satellite assets and commercial imagery from US-based Maxar Technologies for target validation and post-strike assessment. The initial deployment consists of five interconnected sensor nodes equipped with Optical Head Units for precision imaging and Electronics Head Units for onboard processing. Powered by solar energy with battery backup, the system is engineered to operate in extreme environments ranging from the Thar Desert to Himalayan winters.
Why it matters
The deployment reduces India's reliance on foreign commercial data providers for time-sensitive military decisions and orbital awareness in Low Earth Orbit.
