Dilip Vengsarkar Criticizes BCCI Over India A Tours During Ranji Trophy

· Sports · Times of India, NDTV Sports

Former India captain Dilip Vengsarkar has criticized the BCCI for scheduling India A shadow tours concurrently with the premier domestic Ranji Trophy season. A 15-member India A squad led by wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel is scheduled to tour New Zealand for three four-day matches in Lincoln and Christchurch from October 24 to November 7. Vengsarkar argued that removing top domestic performers for shadow tours devalues runs scored and wickets taken in the Ranji Trophy. Most players selected for the India A squad are expected to feature in only the opening round of the domestic tournament before departing. The 116-Test veteran suggested that sending the main senior team early is a better method for overseas acclimatization.

Why it matters

Domestic cricketers and premier tournament prestige suffer when the best players are pulled away for concurrent shadow tours.
