Dismantling of Temporary Structures Outside Pakistan Mission Proportionate Action, Says MEA
· World · Indian Express, Zee News
India stated on Friday that the removal of temporary structures outside the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi was a proportionate response to Pakistani authorities removing barricades outside the Indian High Commission in Islamabad. Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Indian authorities took the action after Pakistani personnel removed structures outside the Indian mission on Monday. The Indian side deployed a JCB machine on Wednesday to demolish unauthorised structures, parking poles, and queue management barricades along the lane in Chanakyapuri. The diplomatic missions of both countries have functioned at the level of Charge d'affaires with reduced strength for the past seven years following heightened tensions.
Why it matters
The tit-for-tat demolition of security and visitor management structures outside the high commissions in New Delhi and Islamabad reflects the persistent low point in bilateral diplomatic relations.
