Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chair of Russia’s Security Council, stated on Saturday that Moscow should respond to new US sanctions with military deterrence. The announcement follows President Donald Trump signing the Lindsey O. Graham Sanctioning Russia and Iran Act of 2026 on Friday. This legislation expands existing sanctions and tariffs on Russia’s energy and defence sectors, as well as its so-called shadow fleet of oil tankers. The bill also authorizes the US president to impose tariffs of up to 100 per cent on major purchasers of Russian energy, including India and China. Medvedev did not provide specific details on what military measures Russia might consider in response to the law.
