DMK Created EB-CID to Control Drug Menace, Says Udhayanidhi Stalin

Leader of the Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin rejected allegations in the Assembly on Monday that the previous DMK government failed to prevent the spread of drug culture in Tamil Nadu. Speaking during a special calling-attention motion regarding the killings of engineering student Amuthan in Coimbatore and school student Dhanush in Tiruvottiyur, he defended the party's record. He stated that the then Chief Minister, M.K. Stalin, integrated the Narcotics Intelligence Bureau and the Prohibition Enforcement Department to establish the Enforcement Bureau-CID. Mr. Udhayanidhi pointed out that Greater Chennai Commissioner of Police A. Amal Raj previously headed the EB-CID and that 15 police personnel received Independence Day awards for controlling narcotics during the DMK tenure. He also criticized the current government by noting that Chief Minister and Minister in charge of law and order M.K. Stalin was not ready to respond during the debate.
