DMK Demands Answers Over Killing of Three Tamils in Karnataka

· India · Hindustan Times, The Hindu

Opposition party DMK has raised the deaths of three individuals—Anthony Samy, John Rose Peter, and Kumar—in the Cauvery Wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka's Chamarajanagar district. Leader of Opposition Udhayanidhi Stalin alleged in the state Assembly that the victims were tortured and shot at close range by the Karnataka forest department on August 15. The DMK is demanding a high-level inquiry into the incident and questioning whether the Tamil Nadu government has formally addressed the matter with the Karnataka administration. Speaker J C D Prabhakar stated that the Law Minister will provide a detailed response to the opposition's concerns. The victims were reportedly identified by the Karnataka authorities as poachers.

Why it matters

The incident has sparked political friction between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, raising questions about inter-state coordination and the treatment of individuals in border forest zones.
