Doctors Urge Organ Donation to Address Growing Transplant Demand in India

Doctors Pradeep Krishna, a senior consultant at Apollo Hospitals in Bengaluru, and Pradeep Kumar from Sushodha Institute of Gastroenterology called for greater organ donation awareness in Shivamogga on Sunday. They highlighted a growing demand for organs, with over 90,000 patients on waiting lists for transplants nationwide as of March 2026, despite more than 20,000 successful transplant procedures in 2025. Organ donation is stressed as a critical act of compassion, with brain-dead patients able to donate vital organs like kidneys and lungs. The event also featured a testimony from a liver transplant recipient in Shivamogga, whose daughter donated a portion of her liver to save his life.
