Domestic travel rebounds as passenger numbers approach 2019 levels in 2024

Domestic air traffic in India reached 121.7 million passengers in 2024, the highest annual volume since 2019, driven by a strong recovery in the second half of the year. International passenger traffic also grew significantly, crossing 23.9 million for the full year. The civil aviation sector has largely regained 2019-era capacity, with passenger load factors remaining stable at around 85 per cent. Low-cost carriers accounted for over 60 per cent of domestic seat capacity, reflecting sustained affordability-driven demand.
