DRI Seizes 362 Tonnes of Pakistan-Origin Dates in Nashik

· India · LiveMint, NDTV

The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) has intercepted 13 containers carrying 362 metric tonnes of dry dates in Nashik, Maharashtra. Investigations revealed the consignment originated in Karachi, Pakistan, but was routed through Jebel Ali, UAE, to conceal its true source. The goods were transferred between containers and vessels at the UAE port to bypass India's total import prohibition on Pakistani products. This ban has been in effect since May 2, 2025, following the Pahalgam terror attack. The DRI continues to monitor such trans-shipment attempts under its ongoing 'Operation Deep Manifest'.

Why it matters

The seizure enforces India's strict trade embargo on Pakistan, impacting supply chains that attempt to circumvent national security protocols through third-country routing.
