Dubai extradites rape accused to India after 10-month manhunt
· India · Indian Express, The Hindu
Delhi Police extradited 38-year-old Sajeer Palli Mooppan alias Sajeer PM from the UAE on November 4, 2026, for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman in West Delhi on October 1, 2025. Police said the accused, a former Joyalukkas manager, spiked the woman's drink at a birthday party and sexually assaulted her at a Karol Bagh hotel. He fled India on January 5, 2026, and was tracked to Dubai, where he had started working at a plumbing accessories shop. A Red Corner Notice, issued via INTERPOL on July 7 after a CBI-led investigation, facilitated his return.
Why it matters
The extradition sets a significant precedent for international cooperation in sexual assault cases, demonstrating Indian police can secure the return of accused persons from abroad to face justice. It offers closure to the victim and sends a message that fugitives cannot evade Indian law by fleeing to the UAE.
