E Ink Announces Kaleido 4 Color E-Paper Display Tech

· Technology · Engadget, Android Authority

E Ink has announced its latest Kaleido 4 color e-paper technology, promising a wider color range and improved refresh rates for future e-readers and writing tablets. The new display doubles its color gamut volume to produce over 40,000 colors while increasing white reflectance and contrast compared to older models. E Ink states that the technology achieves an 18 fps refresh rate for video content through the addition of an oxide backplate to the display stack. Major e-reader brands such as Amazon, Kobo, and Boox utilize E Ink panels, though future device adoption timing remains unconfirmed. Hanvon Technology's M10 C II e-paper tablet is currently the only official device using the Kaleido 4 screen, and it is available exclusively in China.

Why it matters

These display improvements address longstanding issues of color accuracy and text clarity in e-readers, potentially shaping the next generation of digital reading and writing devices.
